Readiness Checklist
Please check these things to ensure your environment is ready for a Packet Tracer Exam.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 or above must be installed.
Packet Tracer 6.1.1 or higher must be installed. You can download the latest Packet Tracer here.
Browsers must be able to download files of at least 2MB.
Troubleshooting
If you have verified the checklist items and are still not able to launch Packet Tracer, then begin troubleshooting using the following list.
If the computer you are troubleshooting is your own, then you may want to try reinstalling Packet Tracer as a first troubleshooting step since it will use the default settings which is what the following steps will ask you to verify.
Verify that you have Packet Tracer 6.1.1 or higher installed.
Verify that the environment variables the Packet Tracer defines on installation have not been removed or moved.
Verify that the file extensions\ptplayer\ptplayer.pta exists under the Packet Tracer installation directory.
Verify that Packet Tracer is configured to allow IPC communication. This is done via the Extensions > IPC > Options... menu. “Always Listen on Start” must be checked.
Verify that Packet Tracer is configured to allow the ptplayer extension to communicate. This is done via the Extensions > IPC > Configure Apps... menu. Select “PT Exam Player” in the “Apps List”. Then select the “Settings” tab to the right. “On Demand” must be selected.
